Concrete is often modest in volume and still extremely heavy. A useful request describes weight clues and access, not only how large the pile looks.
Measure the pile
Record approximate length, width and height. If the material came from a slab or walkway, note its thickness and whether pieces contain rebar or wire mesh.
Describe the mix
List concrete, brick, block, mortar, tile, soil and asphalt separately. Clean separated material may follow a different handling path from a mixed demolition load.
Map the route
Count steps and turns from pile to truck access. Note slopes, soft ground, narrow gates and surfaces that need protection.
Keep pieces manageable
Do not attempt risky lifting or further breaking just to prepare for pickup. Describe oversized or reinforced pieces so the job can be assessed before arrival.
Pickup-readiness checklist
- Pile dimensions recorded
- Thickness noted
- Reinforcement identified
- Mixed materials listed
- Loading distance and slope described
Where the rules come from
Kern County Public Works publishes material-specific acceptance criteria for construction and demolition waste, and CalRecycle advises checking local facilities before taking material. Those sources support preparation decisions; they do not confirm what a private hauler will accept.
